The University of Passau, established in 1973, is a public research university located in Passau, Lower Bavaria, Germany. It is the youngest university in Bavaria and has the most modern campus in the state. The university's roots trace back to 1622 when an Institute for Catholic Studies was incorporated into a gymnasium founded by Fürst Leopold in 1612. Over the years, it evolved into a philosophical-theological university in 1923. Today, the university comprises four faculties offering 39 different undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The campus is uniquely situated along the left bank of the Inn river, providing an idyllic environment for study. The university maintains partnerships with approximately 300 foreign universities across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia, facilitating a strong international orientation. The campus features modern facilities, including a central library with a collection of two million books and 3,050 journals, and a sports centre offering a wide range of activities. The university also provides a variety of student associations and groups, fostering a vibrant student life. Notably, the university does not charge tuition fees for international students, aiming to avoid imposing additional financial burdens on them.
