The University for Church Music of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, officially known as Hochschule für Kirchenmusik der Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart, is a state-recognized ecclesiastical music university located in Rottenburg am Neckar, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Established in 1949, the institution has a rich history rooted in the Catholic Church's musical traditions. Initially founded as the Bischöfliche Musikschule in 1949, it evolved into the Kirchenmusikschule Rottenburg in 1972. On November 11, 1997, under the leadership of Bishop Walter Kasper, the school was elevated to the status of a university, adopting its current name. This transformation was confirmed by Cardinal Pio Laghi on November 22, 1997, granting the institution the designation 'Institutum Superius Musicae Sacrae.' The university offers a range of programs focused on Catholic church music. These include Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Catholic Church Music, with specializations in areas such as organ literature, organ improvisation, choral conducting, and Gregorian chant. Additionally, the university provides a C-training program designed for part-time church musicians, conducted on behalf of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart's Office for Church Music.
