The Theologische Hochschule Elstal is the theological training institution of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches in Germany (BEFG). Founded in 1880 in Hamburg-Horn as the Preacher Seminary of the German Baptists, it later became known as the Theological Seminary of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches. In 1997, the institution relocated to Wustermark-Elstal near Berlin. In 2015, it received permanent recognition as a private university. Closely associated with it is the Oncken Archive of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches. The university offers programs in Evangelical Theology at both bachelor's and master's levels, as well as a master's program in Diaconia and Social Theology. The study concept combines theological knowledge with personal development and practical application, aiming to prepare students for pastoral and diaconal roles within the church and society. The campus provides housing options, a library with over 75,000 volumes, and various recreational facilities. The university emphasizes community life, spiritual growth, and academic excellence.
