The Akademie der Polizei Hamburg, founded on October 1, 2013, serves as the central training and further education institution for the Hamburg Police. It was established through the merger of the former Landespolizeischule and the Hochschule der Polizei Hamburg. The Academy offers training programs for all career levels of the police, including intermediate, senior, and executive services. Its university of applied sciences division provides a three-year bachelor's degree program in the fields of protection police, water protection police, and criminal police. In addition to training, the Academy places significant emphasis on research, operating several institutes such as the Hamburger Institut für interdisziplinäre Kriminalitäts- und Sicherheitsforschung (HIKS) and the Forschungsstelle für strategische Polizeiforschung (FOSPOL).
